We are DUCFFT

Our Vision

The Dominican University of CA full-time faculty are unionized with the California Federation of Teachers Local 6604 to create a safe, collegial, and equitable workplace. The Union represents each faculty member in negotiations that work towards creating and maintaining financial health, stability, and equity among its members; transparency and mutual respect with and from administration; and professional support for faculty research, teaching, and field-specific development.

Our Mission

Our union provides term, tenure-track, tenured, and library faculty members a platform to advocate with a unified voice for better working conditions, including equitable and competitive salary, promotion ladders that reflect cost of living increases and faculty rank, reasonable workloads, curricular autonomy, and academic freedom, so that we have the resources and support we need to better serve our community now and in the decades to come.

In protecting the rights of its members, the Union serves to advance the Dominican mission “to educate and prepare students to be ethical leaders and socially responsible global citizens who incorporate the Dominican values of study, reflection, community and service into their lives.”

Our Values

Student-centered

We care deeply about  our students’ education and we believe that what is best for them is also what is best for the long-term sustainability of Dominican. We will talk to students, we will listen to students, and we will use our unified voice to advocate for students.

Respect and Transparency

We envision a university where faculty are treated as full partners in decision-making, where our discipline-specific expertise and our teaching expertise are valued, where we have transparent access to information about the university, and where we work collaboratively with the administration. We envision a university culture wherein full time faculty are valued and morale is a priority as we engage in our work.

We will be respectful in our interactions with each other as well as with the administration. We will be honest and forthright about our opinions and accepting of those who disagree with us. We will give and receive feedback and actively utilize reflection as a tool for growth.

Equity and Compensation

We envision a more equitable university, where all term, tenure-track, tenured, and library faculty members are paid a dignified salary that keeps pace with cost of living, and where faculty are given the resources and release time needed to be successful at their work. The Union will redress compensation inequities across schools and salary steps in order to fulfill its commitment to financial justice and to attract and retain diverse junior faculty. We understand the need for flexibility in regard to both expectations and resources, but we are all equal as colleagues, and we will respect and advocate for each other as such. Whatever privilege or status we have, we will use it to advocate for those who have less.
